Stella Jean, a Haitian-Italian fashion designer is the way forward. So says iconic master couturier, Giorgio Armani speaking from Milan where Jean recently showed her 2014 Fall collection. Stella Jean is part of a program with the International Trade Center, a WTO and UN collaboration, called the Ethical Fashion Initiative whose aim is to connect mainstream designers such as Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood with skilled artisans across the continent. The mandate is to produce fashion with a world class fit and finish. The tag line of the initiative? Not Charity, Just Work.
In this recently released short video, we see Stella connect with women in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso to craft a unique collection of amazing, colorful fabrics that form the base of the Summer 2014 collection that kicked Jean’s career into high gear.
